GCSE exams can feel overwhelming — not just for students, but for parents too.
Knowing how to support your child with exam stress at each stage can make a huge difference to their confidence and performance.
📅 In the run-up to exams
Keep things steady and structured. Encourage a simple revision routine, regular breaks, and realistic goals. Help them stay focused, but avoid last-minute panic or overload — consistency is key.
😌 The night before
Focus on calm, not cramming. Encourage them to review lightly if needed, but prioritise a good night’s sleep. Help them get organised (equipment ready, uniform sorted) so the morning feels smooth and stress-free.
🌅 On the day of the exam
Keep the tone positive and reassuring. A good breakfast, arriving in plenty of time, and a few calm words can go a long way. Remind them to take their time, read questions carefully, and just do their best.
💬 Most importantly: be their safe space
Your calm presence helps regulate their stress. They don’t need pressure — they need reassurance, perspective, and encouragement.
